Interesting Sika Deer Facts
Sika deer, sometimes called spotted deer or Japanese deer, originated in East Asia and once ranged from the Russian Far East to northern Vietnam. Their numbers have shrunk across much of that range, but they’re still plentiful in Japan.
They run smaller than other deer, males weigh about 90 pounds, females about 70, with narrow antlers and a shaggy neck mane that set them apart from other species you’ll encounter on our exotic hunts. That combination of rarity and challenge is exactly what draws hunters to them.
