Summer comes to an end soon, and Fall starts in September, running through December. You know what that means? It’s almost hunting season! Many hunters hunt deer in the coming months, and maybe you will be one of those hunters who comes to Tioga Ranch in Pennsylvania to do just that.
What are some tips to prepare for this year’s hunting season?
Bureaucratic Parts
For starters, get your hunting license.
Next, brush up your knowledge of hunting rules and regulations– they can change, so it’s a good idea to check on key dates for hunts as well as bag limits.
Location, Location, Location!
Thirdly, plan your hunting on private or public land– figure out where you plan to hunt and make sure it’s a-ok to go where you want to go. If you have a way to set up trail cameras– or the place you want to hunt already has them– you can watch them before you actually hunt, and get an idea of animals’ patterns. It can be fun monitoring cameras if they’re available.
Work on Your Firearm
Take time to make sure your weapon of choice is in good working condition. Practice with it in different conditions. Work on your shooting accuracy. Stock up on ammo. If you’re using a bow, it might be time to replace broken strings or cables. And if you carry a knife with you while hunting, it makes sense to sharpen it before hunting season starts.
Get Organized
Finally, be prepared for hunting by making a checklist so you have what you might need for any situation. Most hunters bring their cell phones with them, along with a map, compass or GPS. They might also prepare an emergency kit with first aid supplies, water purifiers, extra food, etc.
